Laos

If Laos was a song it would be a romantic and nostalgic ballad, a tune that you can’t get out of your head following the same gentle rhythm of the River Mekong.

From north to south, the “Mother of Waters”, flows past villages and gradually widens as it passes the golden temples of Luang Prabang and continues at a languid pace as it flows by Vientiane. It fertilizes the plains and rice fields of both Laos and Thailand before it reaches the south. Here it flows around numerous small islands before passing though some of the biggest waterfalls in SE Asia and the border with Cambodia.

From it’s source in the Tibetan Plateau, the river passes the steep slopes of Yunnan Province in China and finishes in the dense tropical forests of Vietnam & Cambodia. The river hides some amazing flora and fauna and the many ethnic groups who live on it’s banks, jealously guard their traditions, colourful costumes and language.
